One of our first orders of business in 2012 will be to update each participating Member Program's contact information and other relevant data that is critical to our administration of the Association as a whole. In this regard, we have developed the JGLA Member Program Application & Agreement Form which can be downloaded by clicking here. This is a LIVE Excel file that will need to be filled out every year and submitted to the Conference Presidents for their review and acceptance. It will also serve as the basis for much of the data that will be populated in the Member Programs section of the new website.
As discussed at our mandatory League-wide meeting in November, there will be an increased focus on COMPLIANCE by both US Lacrosse and the JGLA moving forward. From the JGLA's perspective this focuses heavily on the following:
To assist in this process we have developed an Instructions Sheet which can be downloaded by clicking here, that will help guide you through the form in a step by step manner. For Member Programs to remain in "Good Standing" status as defined by our Sportsmanship Policy, this must be submitted by the published deadline of February 15, 2012.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and timely processing of this form. If you have any questions, please contact your Conference President for assistance.
The Power Point presentation from our recent Association meeting is now available by clicking here (PDF file).
Please direct ALL of your coaches to it for their review and information. We appreciate all the programs that were represented and for your contributions at the meeting - thank you! For those programs who were not in attendance, your Conference Presidents will be getting in touch with you to gather information on the projected number of girls at each age bracket and coaches you anticipate having in 2012. We need this data to plan for the upcoming season and appreciate your assistance in providing it.
Additionally, there were several other documents used or referenced during the Annual Meeting, which are also available for your viewing/download (PDF files) by clicking the item below:
Be on the lookout for additional emails over the coming weeks having to do with our planned Educational Clinics, new website and JGLA Rules + Guidelines.
The Board recently voted unanimously to change our name from the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League (NJJGLL) to Jersey Girls Lacrosse Association (JGLA). Ideally, we would be making this announcement in person at the meeting but statutory regulations require that we post the new Bylaws beforehand so that a formal vote may be cast by the Membership in attendance.
You can view the updated Bylaws for the Organization by clicking here.
Part of our collective mission is to help grow the game of lacrosse.
In 2008, the US Lacrosse Board of Directors approved the launch of the program, Emerging Groups, in order to allow US Lacrosse to better serve groups in inner-city or under served communities. This program provides those groups with financial and resource assistance to build and sustain a lacrosse program.
As a compliment to USL's Emerging Groups program, the NJJGLL is endeavoring to help out some folks in Jersey City through the donation of gently used lacrosse equipment (sticks, goggles, gloves, etc..). At each of the upcoming USL Instructional Clinics in Mountain Lakes, Gillette and Chester, representatives of the Jersey City initiative will be there to collect these items.
We ask that you do whatever you can to help reach the girls in this community who may not otherwise have an opportunity to play the sport we all love. Contact your Program Administrators and speak to your fellow coaches who are attending these clinics and ask that they help transport your donations.
Thanks for your help and consideration.
NJJGLL believes that Honoring the Game of lacrosse comes before winning and losing. We have created a form to report instances where a participant(s), team or group created either a POSITIVE or NEGATIVE notable experience during a NJJGLL event. Notable would mean either "I have never seen another youth lacrosse organization do this better" or "This behavior was unsatisfactory."
We do plan on recognizing and rewarding members who display exceptional sportsmanship.
Please try to sort out a negative event on your own and between the town program managers. If you are unable to resolve the issue or are not satisfied, then fill out the form. Reports of poor sportsmanship will be investigated by the conference president and/or the sportsmanship chair.
Thank you for your help in support of our efforts to "Honor the Game".
Use this form to enter your sponsorship reports within 48 hours of the incident.

This year NJJGLL launched a new lanyard initiative to acknowledge all of our US Lacrosse Level 1 and Level 2 certified coaches.
We will now be requiring coaches to display their credentials on the field during games to participate. Attached to the end of the lanyard is a plastic sleeve in which you are to keep your current US Lacrosse membership card. By adhering to these simple rules the umpires will be able to quickly determine if coaches have met their compliance deadlines.
Any coach who: • did not attend a Winter 2010 NJJGLL sponsored level 1 clinic (Basking Ridge, Mt Olive or Millburn),
• has at least submitted their certification application and background check* and
• does not have a level 1 or 2 lanyard yet
should complete the online lanyard request form by clicking here. Your lanyard will be in the mail in a few days. (while supplies last).
Coaches who attended Basking Ridge, Mt Olive or Millburn were given their lanyards then.
* US Lacrosse coach certification requires completion of the three educational components and an application to US Lacrosse for certification before the background check- click here for more info.
If there is an issue with or question on your certification, please contact US Lacrosse. sportdevelopment@uslacrosse.org

Just in case you might have missed the piece on page 54 of the November issue of Lacrosse Magazine, our very own NJJGLL Umpire Representative Laura McCarthy was honored by US Lacrosse as one of their 2009 Youth Award Winners!
It is very gratifying to see that our national partner, US Lacrosse, has recognized Laura for the positive contribution she has made to the game of women’s lacrosse. Laura’s value and dedication to the sport is something that we in New Jersey have known about and appreciated for many years. If by any chance you will be attending the National Convention in Baltimore in January, please consider going to the awards breakfast on Saturday morning when Laura will be honored. And if you can’t make the trip down I-95, please take a moment the next time you see Laura and thank her personally for all that she has done.
Just in case you might have missed the piece on page 68 of the August issue of Lacrosse Magazine about Honoring Those Who Honor the Game, by David Jacobson of Positive Coaching Alliance, please click here to enjoy the quick read. The NJJGLL Board is extremely proud of the Del Val Junior Lacrosse program from Milford, NJ for receiving such high honors from both US Lacrosse and PCA.
Kudos to Audrey Wilcox and Brent Kephart for leading by example and shining such a favorable light on junior girls lacrosse in the State of New Jersey. Keep up the good work!
So, I have a challenge for the rest of you - which one of our other programs will be the next recipient of the Honoring the Game Award? Be that winner.
Best, Mark Coan NJJGLL President
Three years ago, the Bobby Campbell Lacrosse Foundation brought lacrosse to inner city Trenton. Our goal was simple: provide the kids of Trenton with the same joy and opportunities that lacrosse has brought to us and our children over the years. We are off to a good start. We have been successful in growing the program to include nearly 100 boys and girls. We are expecting more this year.
With growth comes challenges -- the largest being financial. We ask the Trenton families to pay a minimal fee. The Foundation covers everything else. In addition to the typical expenses (uniforms, umpire fees, field rental, etc..), an inner city program has another layer of costs. The largest of which are the kids’ equipment and bus transportation to practices/games. It is also necessary to supplement our volunteer coaches with paid coaches, as there is not a pool of parents with lacrosse experience.
We are working hard at improving these kids’ lives. They obviously gain invaluable life skills through the game. These skills are supplemented with mentoring programs and off-the-field events. The Princeton University men's and women's teams have partnered with us, providing coaching, mentoring, and big sister/brother relationships for the kids. We are also making progress with the city school system to get lacrosse into the high school so the kids in Trenton can continue with the game they now love.
To get a feel for what we are doing in Trenton, please take a few minutes to watch the following videos (click on the links below).

As the Trenton program grows, so does the need for financial help. In these tough financial times this is a challenge. We have gained critical momentum in generating something good in Trenton. We don't want to let the Trenton kids down. We need your assistance. Here’s how you can help:
Youth Program Administrators: Please consider donating a portion of your program’s cash reserves.
Coaches: Please forward this email to your players’ families.
Lax Parents: Please consider making a personal donation.
We would be thrilled if you would sponsor a player ($400). We would be ecstatic if you would sponsor more than one. However, we would be grateful for any amount you contribute to making a difference in these kids' lives.
To Donate: Click here to donate online or get the address for sending a check. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity and donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for your generosity. It will be well used and much appreciated. Please feel free to share this email with all interested parties.
Sincerely, Chris Cahill, President The Bobby Campbell Lacrosse Foundation
