Dear Laxers:

We are nearing the end of our 2010 youth lacrosse season and it's time for our 8th Grade All Star Jamboree. The Jamboree is a fun day of lacrosse for 8th graders. The players will be placed on teams with 8th graders from other towns to form a team playing other combined teams. This is a great way to celebrate youth girl's lacrosse in New Jersey and let the girls meet some of the players they may see next year on the high school playing fields.

This year the Jamboree will take place June 6th, 2010 again at Madison High School, Madison, NJ. Please read on to see how your 8th graders can participate.

FAQ

8th Grade ALL STARS Jamboree
(NJ US Lacrosse Chapter)
Sunday, June 6, 2010
Madison High School Madison NJ

Players:
Each NJJGLL town may send three 8th grade players per 7/8 team you have registered in our league. We can adjust number for squads.  We do expect that team to have paid its NJJGLL dues. The cost for NJJGLL players is included in the league dues.

We need 24-30 goalies. They do not count against your field player allocation. Be sure to note goalies in the "Position" section on the form. The selection process is up to each town/program.

All information will be posted on NJJGLL.org.

Coaches:
We also need 16 coaches- these are normally retiring 7/8 coaches or others we want to honor. These names should be emailed to Trustee2@njjgll.com please do not register them online.

Town Contacts:
We need one email contact per town. All information or "special" requests should be on the registration form or via the town contact.

There will be an information sheet dedicated for players, coaches and program managers.

Deadline is May 22th 9 p.m.  Team assignments are made the next week.

The Jamboree will be run a bit different from last year with start times at 8:30; 9:30; 1; or 2 see below:

Game Start Times

Please be sure your 7/8 coaches get this information so all towns can be represented at the 2009 Jamboree!!

FAQ

How should we select our "All Stars"?
The selection process is decided in each town.  Some let the kids vote, others have coaches choose and some pick unsung players to recognize their hard work and attitude.

What if my best players are 7th graders?
This event is for 8th graders ONLY, many towns select players based upon attitude and hard work rather than skill.

How do we sign up?
The link to the form is posted on NJJGLL.org and is also below the FAQ.

How do we know how many players are allowed from our town?
There is a link on NJJGLL.org and also below the FAQ showing what our records have as number of teams. (Basically number of 7/8 games divided by 12).  Adjustments can be made as some towns play squads and only 12 games.  Request via email to Trustee2@njjgll.com with Jamboree in subject line.

I have another deserving player, may my town get more than 3 (or our allocation)?
These are handled on a case by case basis, trying to balance between the expected size of teams and the number of requests.   Email the request to Trustee2@njjgll.org with Jamboree in the subject (so it gets past the spam filter).  Decisions on extras may not be made until after the close of registration, so include name, town, USL number and position.

How can we arrange so my player can play goalie and field?
Enter a note on the registration form and select a primary position.  We will try to place on a team where she can play both.

Why don’t goalies count towards the three per team?
The number of available goalies varies greatly year to year.  Plus the guy organizing this was a goalie and likes to treat them special!

What should I enter as position?
A M D or G : Attack, Middie, Defense, and Goalie

What if the player plays attack and middie, or defense and middie?
Select A or D as it helps us balance the teams.  The coach and player can work out playing time at other positions.

What is the expected playing time?
Normally teams have less than 20 field players who will get equal playing time.  It is two full 50 minute games.

How are the teams assigned?
Between 1 and 3 players per town are assigned to a team.  The idea is to meet and play with other town players!

When are the team assignments published?
The assignments should be posted right after Memorial Day.

What happened to the T-shirt Jerseys?
Based on feedback, the ALL Stars will now get NJ Chapter/NJJGLL All Star shorts as a keepsake.

How do I find my US Lacrosse membership number?
Y
our US Lacrosse membership number is on the mailing label of Lacrosse Magazine or can be found online- https://secure.uslacrosse.org/m.cfm

I can’t find my US Lacrosse number where you said?
Contact US Lacrosse membership.  If that fails, contact your town program manager.  All NJJGLL teams are required to have 100% US Lacrosse membership.

I am getting a ride from another players’ family.  How do i request to be in the same time slot?
This should be noted on the registration form.  This request will be honored.

My player has a soccer game in the morning. May I request a specific time for a player?
This should be noted on the registration form.  No promises are made, however we have met all requests in the past 5+ years.

My player has another lacrosse game in the morning. May I request a specific time for a player?
No other NJJGLL 7/8 or D games are to be scheduled this day, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

When should I get there?
You should plan on being on the field 45 minutes before your first game.

What should the player bring?
The player must have all her playing equipment, a drink, sunscreen and a great attitude.

What should the goalie bring?
Goalies should bring all their equipment plus a drink, sunscreen and a great attitude.

What should the player wear?
We play on grass.  A light colored top is best.  Players will use a pinnie (must be returned).

I am a player, what do I do when I arrive?
Check in at you assigned team area.  If you need your team letter or there is an issue- check at the tent.

What does the coach need to bring?
Lacrosse balls for warmup, clipboard/pad and a great attitude.  Having a set of goalie gear is wonderful, but not mandatory.

What does the coach need to do?
Check in at tent, sign-out your pinnies, meet with team at assigned point, warm team up, have team on field ready to play at horn, sub players so all get equal playing time, keep the game fun and close, get team to teamwork session; return all pinnies.

We are stuck in traffic and will miss our teams start time.  Should we still come?
We operate on the "ADJUST WE MUST" philosophy. Yes, come and check in at the tent. We will get you on a team.

What if players are late?
We operate on the "ADJUST WE MUST" philosophy.  The coach should check with surrounding teams and borrow players.  If that doesn't work, check at the tent.

What if my assigned goalie doesn’t show?
Check with other coaches to see who has an extra.  That's now your goalie!  If that doesn't work, check at the tent.

What if the player is injured after the cutoff?
Find a substitute and send her in the selected player's place.  She should tell the coach she is subbing for xxxxx.

My child only plays for a public/private school team, may she participate?
There are slots available for grade and age appropriate players outside of NJJGLL who are active members of US Lacrosse.  Email Darcy Harp Darciaharp@aol.com  to see if slots are available.

For Non NJJGLL players the fee is $20 per player. Payable by check, checks should be made payable to NJJGLL and mailed to our Treasurer:
