Hello Laxers, Our Referee Assigner and Board member Laura McCarthy has asked that we immediately get the word out to all youth players in the State on the following two (2) subjects. One has been around for a while and the other is brand new: MOUTH GUARDS (Section 8) ALL players must properly wear a professionally manufactured intra-oral mouthpiece that FULLY covers the upper jaw teeth. The mouthpiece shall be any readily visible color other then clear or white. It must not be altered to decrease protection, and there may be NO PROTRUDING TABS for field players. It is recommended that the mouthpiece be properly fitted, for example, constructed from a model made from an impression of the individual's teeth, constructed and fitted for the individual by impressing the teeth into the mouthpiece, or provided by a dental professional. If you have any players who do this, have them cut the mouthpiece tab off flush and you can NEVER attach the mouthpiece to the goggles! ILLEGAL STICKS It has come to the attention of the US Lacrosse Rules Committee that crosses manufactured without dedicated sidewall stringing holes, or crosses with sidewall stringing holes but strung either partially or completely through decorative sidewall openings have the intentional effect of creating a deeper “reverse pocket” that may provide an advantage on the draw. For more detailed information on this issue please read the USL memorandum dated April 15, 2010 by clicking here. While this may be more of an issue with high school and college level players, we insist that ALL coaches in the NJJGLL review this matter with your players and ensure that they are not stringing their sticks in this manner. Be safe out there and keep the play legal at all times. Regards, |
